American Indian Education Project

State Goal

MDE has identified two state-specific goals for this project:

  1. To close the achievement gap of American Indian students by supporting districts and schools to better serve the needs of this student population.
  2. To increase the capacity of teachers and leaders to create culturally responsive and inclusive educational environments, and implement a culturally relevant curriculum and instructional practices for American Indian students and their peers.
Background

Through this continuing project, MWCC will build on the capacity to develop an American Indian Education (AIE) self-assessment tool in Year 4 by assisting MDE in closing the achievement gap of American Indian students. The project will support districts and schools to better serve the needs of this student population. The project also seeks to increase the capacity of teachers and leaders to create and implement culturally responsive and inclusive educational environments through a culturally relevant curriculum and instructional practices for American Indian students and their peers.

Activities
  • MDE will Identify, adapt, or develop resources and tools to accompany the Minnesota AIE self-assessment rubric.
  • MDE will design a data collection and monitoring system for districts, Bureau of Indian Education schools, and charters receiving Minnesota AIE Formula Aid funding.
  • MDE will develop an online platform for the Minnesota AIE self- assessment rubric.
