A career in law is one of the most challenging and rewarding life paths that you can walk on. However, before you decide, it is essential to know what you will be experiencing and what life in law school looks like.

Law school is where it all begins. Many people find the curriculum and lifestyle of being a law student very taxing, while others feel completely at home in the competitive atmosphere. Hence, it is best to know how the life of a law student will look like. Here are eight things you should know about life as a law student:

It can be quite expensive to be a law student. Many people incur a lot of debt in order to fulfill their dream of becoming a lawyer. Also, keep in mind that the law school books tend to be very costly as they tend to be written by eminent lawyers and jurists with years of experience and expertise.

You Will Need to Put in the Hours

The academic curriculum in a law school can be very exciting and challenging. The professors will require you to read plenty of materials and textbooks. You will also be required to submit assignments. As a law student, you will be expected to pay an incredible amount of attention to the little details and technicalities involved in your study of the law.

Law schools are also famous for their academic activities like moot courts and debates. For these activities, you will need to prepare a lot, read and memorize important case laws and passages.

You will have to learn the art of time management and juggle between many things. If you are not prepared for or enthusiastic about this, law school can feel like forever to complete.

People Will Ask You for Advice

You can expect your family members and friends to ask you questions and expect free legal advice if you’re a law student. Many people think of law students as ‘lawyers in training’ and expect the students to know the law. However, keep in mind that you’re still learning and learn to take the criticism in the right spirit. This is an issue that both law students and medical students commonly face.

Those who join law schools are usually highly ambitious and intelligent. They have a way of testing each other’s knowledge and skills in order to develop and grow. However, it doesn’t have to be all competition, and you can expect to form some beautiful friendships in the process and have a great time.

You may not have time for parties and other social events anymore. Your parents or friends from your life outside of the law school may complain that they don’t see you around enough. This is because you will be required to be extremely devoted to the profession. However, with some planning, you can certainly strike a balance and enjoy a social life.
